Sleep Well and Sleep Better – Melatonin

As I write this, I have just had the most gorgeous sleep, and it was all thanks to a discovery I made a few weeks ago. I’m going to share what I have learned about my journey to sleep well with the aid of Melatonin.

First off, you may be wondering what melatonin is; I was when I first heard about it. As usual, I researched it and discovered it is a sleep chemical and can help those like me with insomnia.

Melatonin, often referred to as the sleep hormone, is a central part of the body’s sleep-wake cycle. Its production increases with evening darkness, promoting healthy sleep and helping to orient our circadian rhythm

You can use melatonin as you would any other supplement, except you take it half an hour before your bedtime. I use the melts, which, as the name suggests, melt in your mouth. Fairly quickly mind, and they taste sweet and have a calm aroma. I’m all about smell, so when I first opened up my bottle, a pleasant feeling overcame me.

To Sleep Well Use Melatonin

You may be concerned if you have never heard of it before what the effects are on the body and mind. Does it leave you with a hangover in the morning like sleeping tablets? And is it legal?

Well, I’m in the UK, and you can get it on prescription, but I’m an impatient sort, and so I ordered it from the US. Because A, I haven’t got the patience to wait for a doctors appointment, and B, I wouldn’t say I like being told no. So I did my own thing, and I am so glad I did.

This is what it is all about in a simple statement about Melatonin:

It’s produced by the pineal gland in the brain, but it’s also found in other areas, such as the eyes, bone marrow, and gut…However, melatonin itself won’t knock you out. It simply lets your body know that it’s nighttime so you can relax and fall asleep easier.

So you see, we produce it naturally; however, those of us with insomnia need that extra kick, and this is why to sleep well, you need Melatonin; you need to trigger your body into sleep mode.

I’m probably making the human disposition sound very robotic, but we have so many chemicals in our bodies that if one goes out of sync, it can affect the rest of the system, so sometimes you need to add stuff.

Where Did I Buy Mine?

[AF] I used a company called Piping Rock, and it was the best value I could find, and they delivered from the US to the UK. I will be ordering another couple of bottles as I like to have a stash of things.

Did I Get A Hangover?

No, for the first time of taking something to help me sleep, I did not. In fact, I woke up feeling refreshed and full of the joys of spring. It’s amazing what a good nights sleep will do for you.

You can get higher dosages, so I’m not sure of the effects of a higher dosage, but for me at the moment, 3mg is fine. You can get up to 12mg, which may leave you a mild hangover, but I can’t say for sure.

I know what my body is like, and I’m pretty sure after a few more months, I will have to increase my dosage, as I tend to get used to things quite quickly. But for the time being, 3mg is good for me.

I hope you will give it a try if you are suffering from erratic sleep patterns or a total lack of sleep because it has worked wonders for me. Along with the CBD oil I use, things are definitely looking up.

Peace & Blessings
